Extra, Taschen, comme souvent, nous offre un livre aux très belles photos d'art.. of the burning man. Une vraie ballade au fil des années et des réalisations, avec le livre "Burning Man - Art of Fire" sans conteste un ouvrage recommandable et les panoramas sont une riche idée!

This is a gorgeous book. If you have been to Burning Man, it allows you to reminisce in the beauty and if you haven't it allows you to dream about another beautiful wonderful world. Each page reveals anothe "Wow" in the viewer.
An amazing event documented in an amazing book with photographs taken by someone with the requisite heart, conviction and awareness of what Burning Man means beyond the surface. The large format size was barely contained by the shipping box which was battered about by FedEx; when I first received this, I wondered if the book inside was still in any kind of presentable condition...I was surprised that it had weathered the shipment process remarkably well. Then came the book itself, well constructed, hefty with a breathtaking cover photograph...inside, picture after picture bringing into sharp relief a sense of the magic inherent in each subject. The clarity, sharpness, colors...all are marvelous; each picture is accompanied by brief, succinct descriptions. Longer commentaries convey the sense of someone who's been there over a span of time (NK Guy's been there since the 1990s) and can discuss topics as elemental as 'dust' with the memory born of heartfelt reminiscences. Of all the recent books on Burning Man, this joins the essential handful that need to be discovered, looked at, read, then thought about afterwards because they can illuminate the spirit within each and every one of us in ways that I had not known to be possible.
NK Guy's recent spectacularly illustrated book covering the annual Burning Man extravaganza in the Nevada desert wilderness is, in fact, spectacular! The photography is of astounding quality - certainly the level needed to truly capture the sheer spectacle and wonder of what one seeswhen participating in this annual summer event. And the quality of the printing is also first-class -- as good as any art book funded by any major, national museum. The narrative that supports all the visuals also give one deep insight and information that all adds up to one of the next best things to being there. Indeed, its true that after taking-in seven different summer journey's to The Black Rock Desert Wilderness my descriptive words (or anyone's for that matter) do little to convey the deeply profound sensorial experience of the place and the time. And if you know you'll never want to make that journey some day, then "NK Guy: The Art of Burning Man" might be the next best thing. There are several highly curated, magnificently illustrated books about this phenomenal event, and this is certainly one of the best you can get your hands on. So sit back and relish every page knowing that there's no dust storm about to swirl you up into its vortex as you gaze in wonder at these gorgeous, enthralling images and descriptive words. But also know that it remains the next best thing to being there next summer!
Such a beautiful book that depicts the art and history of Burning Man in a way it deserves to be shown. My boyfriend ordered this book for us, as we are planning on attending our first burn in 2016. He knows I've done an insane amount of research already and that I'm looking forward to the experience so much, and this book only added to the excitement. It's been a great conversation starter with guests in our apartment that haven't heard of Burning Man. The pages are thick and of good quality and the colors are just absolutely vibrant.
As with all Taschen books, this is a lush volume. In this case, about a surprising place where experiences are many but fleeting. Luckilly, NK Guy's archive of 16+ years of Burning Man photographic observation and documentation provides a beautiful dream landscape that appears just once a year. Art of Burning Man is organized by notions of time (not unlike the playa itself, whose layout is clock-inspired). From Morning (sunrise) to night (the burns), along with essays from architect and temple designer David Best and from longtime BRC staffer Marian Goodell, NK Guy's photographs provide a loose but lovely timeline. Some of the images are a bit repetitive, but I deeply appreciate that the focus is on the build and art of Burning Man, a welcome change from the usual media-mediated pictures of young colorful boho's in various states of undress. My only complaint is the binding. Matte black is prone to scratches just about each and every time it's removed from the bookshelf. But then again, I didn't purchase this book as a collectible, but rather as a scrapbook filled with moments recognized from my own multi-year ambles on the playa.
As someone who has attended the event for 21 years and who owns many books on the event, I feel this is one of, if not THE best Burning Man photo book yet. Because of the focus on the art, big and small (mostly big) this photo book doesn't fall into the trap of many books about the Burning Man event of showing only a sub-set of the participants (the ones who are the most "photogenic") and gives a really good sense of the scope of the event and the art on display.Beautifully printed and presented, the book gives just enough background and information on the subjects while not distracting from the visuals.Highly recommended!!.
